NEW ATTEMPT TO CLOSE ALEX SHELTER AND MOVE DOGS TO PUBLIC POUND

AZIL ALEX is one the biggest NO KILL shelter in the region.

The Mayor of Subotica has planned to close no-kill AZIL ALEX and to move the dogs into the public kill pound. This city
facility lost the license to work in the past because of the bad treatment and the massacre of stray animals. The animals were kept without water and food, and starving dogs often killed each other.
The city "shelter" will be reopened and will have places for 234 dogs, while 180 dogs, caught by dogcatchers, are already there. Relocation of 600 dogs from AZIL ALEX into this facility means to force unfortunate animals to fight against each other to survive, before they are "humanely" murdered.

In AZIL ALEX care for animals!

And this is the public shelter in Subotica, maybe today a bit cleaner.

NE ZATVARAJTE AZIL ALEX, PSI SU OVDE ZBRINUTI I VOLJENI (DO NOT CLOSE AZIL ALEX, THE DOGS ARE WELL CARED FOR AND LOVED)

We are writing to you regarding constant cruelties and killings perpetrated against stray animals in Serbia. According to our information, the Mayor of Subotica now has intention to close no-kill AZIL ALEX and to move all the dogs into the public shelter in Subotica. It is well-known, this city facility is not capable to provide proper shelter for animals, with adequate vet care and food. This "shelter" lost the license to work in the past because of the bad treatment and the massacre of stray animals, which have caused outrage around the world. The animals were kept without water and food, starving dogs killed each other, in the winter they were dying from cold and in the summer from heat stroke.
This city shelter now will be reopened and will have places for 234 dogs, while 180 dogs, caught by dog catchers, are already there. Relocation of 600 dogs from AZIL ALEX into this inadequate facility means to force unfortunate animals to fight against each other to survive.
We appeal to you to KEEP THE DOGS AT NO-KILL AZIL ALEX, where people really care and love them, and make sure that Subotica authorities find a humane solution to the man-made problem of homeless animals. NO-KILL POLICY, IMPLEMENTATION OF THE CURRENT SERBIAN LAWS, HUMANE HOMELESS ANIMALS POPULATION CONTROL, ADOPTION AND PROPER PUBLIC EDUCATION IS THE ONLY EFFECTIVE SOLUTION.
In the past, several information sources have already reported to EU Animal Welfare Intergroup that the Serbian public authorities kill thousands of dogs and cats in an attempt to decrease the populations of stray animals. Now Serbia, as a candidate to join the EU, must respect the Animal Welfare Law and veterinary standards, and improve the welfare conditions of all animals in the country!

We look forward to your reply

  1. God did not put man in charge of animals to abuse them; they are also His creatures.
